About the owner

The Wedding Cottage - Owner

My love affair with weddings started four years ago when I became the Social Events Manager at the gorgeous Embassy Suites Downtown Hotel, formerly known as the Multnomah Hotel. I was fresh out of college with a degree in Italian Studies and excited to be in the "real world". I had attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and even though it was exhilarating to live in such a big city, I'm a born and raised Oregonian and I missed my family, friends and the lovely northwest. The day after graduation I packed up my bags and headed back to Portland and began working the next week. I knew the minute I was in the catering department I wanted to work with weddings. I loved everything about the process of wedding planning, and I especially loved meeting the families and getting to be a part of their special day.

While working at the Embassy Suites I first discovered the charm of The Wedding Cottage. The first time I went in I couldn't stop thinking, "oooh…I want to be engaged and spend all day in this shop!" As fate would have it, the opportunity to purchase The Wedding Cottage dropped into my lap. I had met the former owner (who has now become a great friend of mine) from the Association of Bridal Consultants and I had enjoyed getting to know her through our monthly meetings. With lots of time, patience and excitement, I officially became the proud owner in September of 2009. The Wedding Cottage had coincidentally opened in 1984 (the same year I was born), and I am so grateful to continue on the tradition of providing a store that has just about everything you could want or wish for when planning a wedding.

And for the icing on the cake, my boyfriend, Jacob, and I became engaged just last month! I know, first hand, that the process of planning a wedding can be stressful and hectic, but we will help to make it a fun and wonderful experience.

I hope you will stop by and see us!

Warmly,
Petrel (Petie) Chapman
